Affordable Housing Scheme

Update on North Elmham Affordable Housing Scheme

At a public meeting on 6th July, Broadland Housing displayed and explained the two sites for an affordable housing scheme which have been put forward as potential locations by local residents (not by the Parish Council), with a third having been discounted due to concerns raised by County Highways. The two sites are Back Lane (with likely road access to Dereham Road) and Spencers Close (on the western part of the Village Green.)

Following this site selection community consultation event, which was well attended by over 80 residents and members of the wider local community, the following views were lodged.

In summary:

  • One person supported both sites - perhaps in favour due to the general need for affordable housing
  • Spencers Close - received no other support
  • Back Lane
    • 40 in support
    • 11 against

The main concern raised for Back Lane was Highway safety, which Broadland Housing will now investigate to see if this issue can be addressed. Further consultation with the community on design development should take place later in the year.

The Parish Council unanimously endorsed these views by supporting the selection of the Back Lane site.
